Appropriate Behavior

Description. Inspired by the award winning web series The Slope, a comedy that follows a pair of superficial, homophobic lesbians in Park Slope, APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR develops the absurd comedy that has brought the show such a loyal fan base.

Directed by Desiree Akhavan and produced by Cecilia Frugiuele, APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR tells the story of Shirin, one of those closeted, bisexual, Iranian types living in Brooklyn. She's not quite Persian enough, not quite gay enough, not quite anything enough and being without a cliché to hold onto can be a lonely experience.

The design of this contemporary, witty, offbeat comedy focuses on making the viewer feel the vibrant and diverse atmosphere of New York city. Passing between more than eighteen different locations, from the alternative and trendy Brooklyn warehouse to the middle-class New Jersey Iranian community, the aim was to create different atmospheres to contextualize and define each character who comes into Shirin´s life. The use of very specific colours for each of the sets/characters and the carefully chosen props and decorations enhance this absurd but still naturalistic and stylish comedy.
